So, I know that Pittsburgh is not in Canada, and thus maybe I should not include this trip on this site. However, Pittsburgh, and the Penguins, are forever linked to my trips to Canada because as you know if you have read about any of my trips, my companions are huge Pens fans. Yes, my little sister and her husband, two of the most annoying fans I know, the two people who give me so much grief about the Capitals (although not this year!).

Anyway, to further torment me this year, I was invited to the last Pens home game, which just so happened to be against the Capitals. I am sure the two of them were just planning on using this occasion as a warm-up to the upcoming Stanley Cup playoffs. Of course the Pens, and their annoying fans, fully expected to 3-peat this year, after all, who could stop them.

I agreed to go because, why not. It’s Caps – Pens and if the Capitals won I would get the chance to exact a tiny amount of revenge because the Capitals would clinch the Metropolitan Division on the Pens home ice. I figured I would go all in and I wore my Ovechkin jersey in the heart of enemy territory. And let me tell you, there were not many Caps jerseys to be found in that arena. They do love their Pens in Pittsburgh.

Well, guess what? As maybe a premonition to the upcoming playoffs, the Caps dominated the Pens that day and beat them 3-1, clinching the division and sending a message that this year it was going to be different; and guess what, it was! The Capitals bumped off the defending Stanley Cup Champions, on their home ice, thus ending the rein of terror that the Pens had inflected on Washington and Ovechkin over the past several years.

Of course if you follow hockey, you know that the Capitals went on to win the Stanley Cup. And as Ovie so eloquently stated at the beginning of the season, “We not gonna be suck this year!”

So, take that little sister…we not gonna be suck!
